Another Thursday, Another $25

Review of Golden Shoulders' ' Kin EP in the Sac News & Review. (Last thing on this band, promise!)
The Merc didn't publish my Up and Coming on Mon Frere* this week. Second time in a row...boo!
Also, Jason Lytle totally lied about retiring. He's on a solo tour this summer.

(*Like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, a band Mon Frere is inevitably (and favorably) compared to, they're a trio without a bass player, though their lead singer Nouela (a smoother voice than Karen O) plays thick, sci-fi keyboard lines, and thus Mon Frere sound far too sinister and sexy for a trio without a bass player. They play what you might call electro-dance-rock -- it would be pop but for the distinctly metal riffs throughout their new record, "Blood, Sweat, and Swords." Youth and energy ooze from their pores. You will love them and want to be them.)
