"Who is Joel Hartse" - The Saga Continues

If you're here after reading about me in the Georgia Straight's music section again this week -- where this time, Mike Usinger is on my side -- I thought I should explain. So:

I'm Joel, and I am a music writer, English teacher, and graduate student at the University of British Columbia. My work has appeared in weekly newspapers and magazines throughout North America, including Paste, Blurt, Geez, the Stranger, and the Portland Mercury.

In the next couple of months, Cascade Books will be releasing my first book, Sects, Love, and Rock & Roll: My Life on Record, which is a collection of personal essays about pop music and religious faith. If you'd like to read it, watch this space in October.

P.S. I don't even really dislike the Straight's photo captions that much.
