Groans Too Deep

You ought to be able to find the January issue of Christianity Today at newsstands now -- take a look at my article "Groans Too Deep for Words," about the use of "post-rock" music as expression of faith and worship. I interviewed the bands Hammock, Immanu El, Future of Forestry, and Foxhole, and also Zadok Wartes of the remarkable Urban Hymnal project.

Dear Joel,

Huge fans here. Love the perspective. Eastern Washington meets Shanghai is fascinating! Your vocabulary indicates that you are a very perceptive young man.

The fact that you're a serious theologian is icing on the cake that is, and always has been, Joel Hartse.

Keep it real!

Thanks for your article.

Only just this weekend did I discover Urban Hymnals at an event whose worship featured members of the band.

I've been into Hammock since hearing about them on Public Radio's "Echoes"last year.

The others you mentioned are new to me and the samples link mentioned in the article is not yet working.

I would probably add Unwed Sailor to your list.

peace,
sgc

I actually ran into a roadblock with Unwed Sailor. They were the first band I thought of, but declined to be interviewed, which surprised me a bit.
