Do I dare to write a review of a record by some of my oldest and dearest friends? Even if I am kind of in the band? Sorta. Let me just say this: SYNTHAR's Evenings and Weekends is a masterful blend of organic and electronic, of Daft-Punk-danceability and M.-Ward-earnestness. But it's the human feeling that runs through the record that I'm most impressed with: a sense of despair tinged with the tiniest bit of hope that things can change. I could just be projecting my own emotions, but when I listen to the whole album I get the sense that it's about the attempt to truly love, truly care in a world that seems to have no place for things like that.I hope you'll buy a copy! And thanks if you already did! It's available as an mp3 download or a CD with hand-screenprinted artwork.

Also, please see a new piece I wrote about Sigur Ros and their lovely new double EP, Hvarf-Heim. The good people of Idol Chatter have elected to call it "The Worship-Ness of Sigur Ros." Worship-ness isn't a word, of course, but with Sigur Ros, that's beside the point.
