6. My friend Ryan is "singing" in a new band called Lessons in Regret. It's hard for me to know what to say about this, because I don't have the vocab for this kind of music. I Ryan, if you want to make a convincing case for the style of vocalizing you've got going on here, I'd be more than happy to post it here for my roughly 8 readers.
7. I just got the debut CD by Laura Gibson, which will be out on Hush Records later this fall. It is a thing of quiet beauty. I was so taken by the first song I heard (not track #1, because my CD player was somehow on shuffle) that I had to stop everything I was doing and just lie down and listen. She is totes a hip Christian from Portland.
8. I don't care what you think -- I love the Lemonheads. At least It's a Shame About Ray and Car Button Cloth. This new stuff isn't bad either. Evan Dando + the rhythm section from the Descendents = the perfect harmonzation of 80's and 90's.
9. This is a great find -- John K. Samson performing an unreleased Weakerthans track, "Relative Surplus Value," on the radio.
10. Maybe you've already heard this, but I still think it's impressive (the video isn't that exciting), but someone did a great job of making President Bush sing "Sunday Bloody Sunday."
(11. This isn't a song, it's just crazy. The head of Kill Rock Stars makes the jump to a major. I often wonder what would have happened if I had pursued that job at KRS. Would I be moving to New York?)
PS: I once said on this blog that if Matt Sharp ever got the Rentals back together they would destroy Weezer. I never said they would become Weezer, but...

dear joel,
thanks for posting a link to my band's myspace. i sat on this for a week trying to justify why the eight people (nine if you include me) who read this regularly would want to listen to my band. at first i couldn't really -- assuming that the readers would be of the 'indie rawk' set -- but them i'm assuming something about people i don't know and you know what they say about those who assume. so as a compromise i'll just give a list of who our influences are: minor threat, american nightmare, the locust. and yes, i don't really "sing" but rather scream and growl for two minutes at at time. so check it out if you feel like it and if you don't, my feelings won't be hurt. my band is an acquired taste, not unlike vegemite.
thanks again!
ryan p.
