New Portishead Album

(or, Sure, Geoff Barrow, we've heard that before)

Apparently "the band have nearly completed their third LP."

NOTE: I purchased Portishead's "Sour Times" single at Borders in Seattle, around 1999. For some reason, although I rarely do anything like this, I get the idea that I bought it to impress a girl who also liked the band. We’d see each other every once in a while, and I’d mention Portishead, and when the conversation ran its course in a few seconds, we’d both just sort of look around at the walls or our shoes or anything convenient in the area.

Once she mentioned another band that was similar to Portishead, she said, a band called Lamb. This was new: thus far the rules of our interaction had proscribed talk of any other band, no matter how similar they might be to Portishead. I hadn’t heard of Lamb (though now I have, and do like them), and decided we couldn’t keep up this charade; it was like our whole carefully contrived world, in which there were no bands but Portishead, had been shattered at the mere mention of another band’s name.

It’s just as well. I don’t think the relationship was going anywhere anyway.

PS: Have you heard Shout Out Out Out Out yet? Johnny has. I have now, too.
