RETURN OF THE RENTALS

NO, SERIOUSLY, RETURN OF THE FREAKING RENTALS.

www.therentals.com

This morning, my soundtrack on the bus was Seven More Minutes, the soaring and beautiful second (and, we thought, final) album by the Rentals. Absentmindedly, I clicked over to MattSharp.net to see if the dude was up to anything, as he's wont to disappear for long periods of time...and I found this:

"WE ARE EXTREMELY EXCITED AND HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE UNEXPECTED AND TRUE RETURN OF THE RENTALS. THE BAND IS CURRENTLY IN LOS ANGELES WRITING, REHEARSING, AND PREPARING TO RECORD THEIR 3rd STUDIO ALBUM."

A snippet of the message from Mr. Sharp:

"The essential elements of The Rentals will be there. Our fascination with vintage synthesizers, violas, violins, female harmonies and all the rest will continue. But, I'm guessing, we'll most likely veer off the path that would lead us into the realm of becoming our own tribute band. "

I can't tell you how happy this makes me. The Rentals records are some of the most beautiful, honest, loving pieces of pop music I have ever, ever heard. I am excited for the new possibilities. Just prayin' the album release happens before I leave the country so I can do a feature...

Go Rentals!
