I was just looking up album release dates because I need some money, so I need to write some reviews, and I was just so bored looking at the names of the bands. I used to love it when my favorite bands came out with albums in rapid succession, but now I've realized that the agonized waiting is one of my favorite parts of the process. When I first heard Of Montreal, I was like, "hey, this album is really cool, I like this band," but they come out with a CD like every 6 months*, and it's just not worth keeping up. Same with Starflyer 59, who were one of my favorite bands when I was a teenager. I kept up buying their records until I finished college, but they just crank them out so fast I don't have time to get excited about them any more.
(*This probably isn't true. But they, like SF59, do have a habit of going album-EP-album-EP-etc)
Anyhoo, I noticed a few interesting things: Amanda McKinnon aka Manda "I want you to believe I am Asian" Rin is coming out with a solo record, My DNA, in September. Also, Secretly Canadian is reissuing some of the best (or worst, depending on who you ask) Danielson Famile releases, Fetch the Compass Kids (which features "A No-No," probably my favorite Danielson song), Tell Another Joke at the Ol' Choppin' Block, and Tri-Danielson (Alpha and Omega, as a double album, which it should be).
Current Listening:
Sigur Ros - whatever their new album is called
Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue
Flobots - Fight With Tools (thanks for the tip, Melody)
I still have this idea of joining a rock band here in China and writing about it, but I'm hampered by the fact that my Chinese vocabulary puts me at about the level of a three-year-old child.

Derek Webb: "This SYNTHAR album is killing me… i’ve listened to it maybe 20 times since paying $8 for it last week on noisetrade. beautiful, melodic, synth-based music. gimme one good reason why you shouldn’t download it NOW…"
